Once we decided to renovate our old home and knew we would be overhauling our energy "system" (among other systems), it made sense for us to consider installing a geothermal system for our HVAC and domestic hot water needs. Geothermal energy basically makes use of the ambient temperature of the Earth, from about 8 feet down, which is 55 degrees. Instead of heating conditioned air from 0 to the comfortable temperature of 67 or 70 (or coolingit from 90 degrees to 70), our geothermal system will heat or cool it from 55.
Our geothermal contractor is Dirk Dypold of Advanced Geothermal.
